ET LEARNING

ET ( Edutainment). What is it ?

Computers are a general purpose aid to problem solving, much in the same sense that reading, writing and arithmetic are general purpose aids. Every student who can learn the three 'R' s can also learn to use computer at worthwhile level. Computers are now an everyday tool throughout business, government, industry and higher education. Especially in the field of education, computer literacy has assumed considerable significance in the last few years.

COMPUTER LITERACY - The meaning of COMPUTER LITERACY is a nebulous concept for which there has been no universal agreement as to its meaning. Initially the term indicated a level of understanding that enabled students to identify computers and talk about uses in the general context, which today can at best be referred as Computer Awareness.

COMPUTER AIDED INSTRUCTION - In subsequent years the growth of CAI aided a new dimension to education. In this mode the computer acted upon the students- ie it laid the role of the teacher in the students learning process in all academic areas and thus had direct personal impact on the students. This level of knowledge merely taught the students how to operate and interact with the machine on the basis of preprogrammed instructions and directions being provided by the computer. The student was just a passenger using the computer as a vehicle to attain the destination. However computers not only help to solve problems but are a rich source of further problem solving. Hence CAI is an advance stage and is possible only when every child has already had exposure to the computers.

MULTIMEDIA AND EDUCATION - Interactive multimedia technology is valuable in education because of its inherent characteristics of individual, self pacing, experimental and challenging interaction capabilities with the sudent. It offers significant administrative benefits by providing automatic performance measurements; group statistics and ease of modifying and enhancing the courseware based on results. Over two decades of research have determined that computer-based training (CBT) is capable of producing at least 30% more learning in 40% less time at 30% less cost when compared with traditional class room methods.

THE EMPHASIS - Today the emphasis in the definition of the term 'Computer Literacy' has shifted to imparting a functional level of knowledge of the computers as a working tool. This enables a student to make the computer do things. The student is no longer a 'passenger' but 'Pilot' of the vehicle he wishes to use.

EDUCATIONAL GOALS - The specific goals to be attained in incorporating computer literacy within the educational curriculum are:

- Strengthening creativity and discovery

- learning ability

- Developing IQ

- Developing problem solving skills

- Developing procedural thinking abilities (logic, sequence, order)

- Developing intuitive thinking and estimating skills

- Developing computer programming skills

- Strengthening mathematical concepts

- Strengthening geometrical concepts

EDUTAINMENT - Edutainment is education coupled with entertainment to stimulate your child's mind, to develop his creative and visual skills, logical and lateral thinking ability and to improve sensory co-ordination and concentration. It's all fun, education and adventure for the kids. They learn subjects like science, maths, computer etc. without actually knowing it. And the things they learn really go deep. Their IQ, memory retention and learning skills develop at a faster rate. And it helps them stay right ahead.
